While the masses can’t wait to get the first glimpse of the Himalayan motorcycle, Royal Enfield’s first dab at making an adventure bike; the legendary bike maker is also developing two new engine platforms on which a slew of new products will be launched. In a recent statement, Royal Enfield MD & CEO Siddharth Lal confirmed the development of new products that will be in the range of 250cc to 750cc and are likely to be introduced starting from next year.

Targeted at international markets, Royal Enfield stated that it will stick to its core proposition and the new set of products will offer higher performance but won’t be extremely sporty bikes. Siddharth Lal also stated that the new platforms would underpin a slew of new bikes for at least the next decade. The Chennai-based manufacturer is looking to be the number one mid-size bike maker globally and these new set of offerings will be playing a pivotal role in helping the manufacturer gain traction in international markets.

The new powertrain will most likely include a single-cylinder 250cc motor while the 750cc unit would be a twin-cylinder thumper. This does leave out the 400cc single-cylinder mill that was rumoured to replace the 350cc engines on RE bikes in the future. In addition, Royal Enfield also spoke about investing Rs. 500 crores this year in setting up two new R&D centres in Chennai and the UK, product development and capacity expansion. The Bullet maker will continue to make investments into brand building, distribution and creating globally relevant products.
