The video of the spied test mules

The rear part of the upcoming Royal Enfield Shotgun as been spied in full, sports a typical cruiser look

The upcoming Royal Enfield Shotgun has been spied yet again and, this time, we have got a clearest glimpse of the bike’s rear through the above video. Let’s get straight into the details. The pillion seat sports a ribbed design and is surrounded by a conventional grab rail.

Below the seat is the typical Harley-like cruiser mudguard flanked by 2 indicators with long stalks. A round tail lamp sits at the centre below which are the number plate and its light. The setup abruptly ends with a flap exposing the large rear wheel.

We spent a long time finding out the make and model of the rear tyre but couldn’t find out. We believe it’s a specially curated unit for the cruiser from a local manufacturer like MRF or JK Tyre and its size could be 140/70-R17.

For reference, the Interceptor 650 gets 130/70-R18 Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp rear tyre. The rear wheel is suspended by 2 short spring shock absorbers. Their travel seems short and it must be seen how the bike’s ride quality is.

The rear disc brake seems large enough and might offer good stopping power. The matte black dual exhausts imitate the looks of a howitzer which is cool. Also, in 1 of the 2 test mules, the pillion seat gets a step up design.

Royal Enfield is currently developing 3 new cruisers on the platform and powertrain of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. They include the Super Meteor, Thunderbird X 650, and the now-spied Shotgun.

While all the 3 are cruisers, they get different design for differentiation. The Shotgun’s design has been inspired from the SG650 concept showcased at the EICMA show last year. It features a Scram 411-like front headlight design along with USD forks up front.
