Tata H5 SUV, in its near-production form will be making its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo!

Tata Q501 SUV Spotted Testing
The H5 SUV has been spied in Land Rover Discovery’s clothes

Tata is planning an SUV assault in the Indian market with not just one slated for a launch in the near future, but two. While we have seen the spy shots of the SUV being tested on our roads, it is expected to be offered in two configurations – 5-seater and 7-seater versions. The SUV has been codenamed as H5.

Both the interpretations of the SUVs will underpin the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L550 platform and are said to be completely different in terms of design, looks and feel. The SUVs will be powered by the same 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine as seen in the Jeep Compass but in two different states of tune – 140 HP version for the five-seater and 170 HP version for the 7-seater variant. 2WD and 4WD variants are likely to be offered as well.

The five-seater vehicle will be positioned above the Tata Nexon and is expected to be priced close to Rs. 13 lakhs (ex-showroom). The seven-seater SUV, while replacing the Safari Storme will rival the Jeep Compass and Hyundai’s Creta. 2018 will see a lot of action in the Utility Vehicles segment as Mahindra, Renault and Honda plan to launch MPVs and SUVs. Apart from the H5 SUV, the Tiago-maker will be showcasing the X451 premium hatchback in its near-production form.
