Banking heavily on creating a better brand image globally, Tata Motors signed Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi as its global brand ambassador for passenger vehicles. Kickstarting its first campaign ‘Made of Great’ under the new association, the Indian automaker released a new TVC starring Messi. However, the company has been clever and incorporated the rushes of its upcoming hatchback codenamed Kite giving the first look of the production model of the hatchback.

Expected to make its public debut in the first week of December, Tata Motors is all set with the production spec version but the official nameplate is yet to be disclosed. Similar to spy shots, the Tata Kite gets bold elements like the wide grille up front, large curved headlights, massive logo and LED finished tail lamps. The rushes from the TVC don’t reveal much about other elements of the vehicle.

But what we do know, is that the Kite hatchback will be powered by a detuned 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Bolt and an all-new 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel mill that has been developed by Tata Motors in-house. The styling and design has been done by the automaker’s studios in Italy and the UK, in a bid to lend a global appeal to the hatchback. A starting price is expected to be a shade under Rs. 4 lakhs (ex-showroom) as the Kite will compete against the Maruti Wagon R, Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 and the likes in the segment

The Kite is also regarded as the successor to the ageing Indica, the model that cemented Tata’s position in the passenger vehicle space. The company showcased great potential with the new Zest and Bolt models and while sales may not have been up to the mark, the numbers are steadily rising for the former at least. The launch of the Kite will be followed most likely with the Hexa hitting the dealerships while a Kite based compact sedan is also in the works.
