Tata Nano CNG emax

You read it first on MotorBeam. Tata Motors will launch the Nano CNG emax on the 8th of October, 2013 at an event which will take place in Ahmedabad. The Nano hasn’t been doing great sales numbers and the CNG model is expected to boost volumes marginally. However the Tata Nano will get a substantial sales boost only once the diesel version arrives next year. Tata Motors is also working on more variants of the Nano, including a comprehensive facelift which will address many issues of the world’s cheapest car.

The Tata Nano CNG runs on both petrol and CNG with the output from the engine being higher in petrol mode. The CNG Nano belts out 33 PS and 45 Nm in CNG mode while in petrol mode it delivers 38 PS and 51 Nm. The claimed mileage is 36 km/kg which is impressive but the CNG tank is 5 kgs in size and the cylinder is placed below the driver’s seat. There is a fire extinguisher placed below the centre console. The Nano CNG looks identical to the regular Nano save for the emax badging on the boot.

Tata Motors won’t sell the Nano emax pan India as some states don’t have high demand for CNG vehicles due to poor CNG infrastructure. The Tata Nano CNG will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 CNG which is known as Alto 800 Green and is priced from Rs. 3.38 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Maruti Suzuki offers three variants of the Alto 800 CNG but the pricing is much higher compared to the petrol model. Sales of the CNG powered Nano will start immediately and the company will price the car at a Rs. 40,000/- premium over the regular Nano.
