The top 10 cars list for October 2017 sees Maruti Celerio’s sales almost triple!

Top 10 Car Sales In October 2017

The top 10 cars list for the month of October 2017 sees the usual domination by Maruti with the top three spots being bagged by the Dzire, Alto and Baleno. October was a pretty dry month for the automobile industry in India despite the festive season as most of the carmakers have reported a decline in the sales.

Look at the above list and it is evident. Apart from the Celerio and the Hyundai Grand i10, every other car in the list has posted a negative growth. Sales of the Maruti Celerio have nearly tripled. Maruti sold just 4797 units in September 2017 and the hatchback wasn’t even there in the top 10 list last month. Surprisingly, the automaker has sold 12,209 units in the month of October 2017. The list above is self-explanatory, so, let’s talk about the cars that couldn’t make it to this list.

Skoda still remains the worst performer selling a total of 1706 units while Fiat which used to be the worst performer, isn’t one anymore. All thanks to the Jeep Compass, Fiat sold 2578 cars in October 2017 with majority of sales coming from the SUV. The Polo and the Ameo continue to back Volkswagen in India. The German carmaker sold a total of 3929 units in October. Ford’s overall sales have more than halved in India. The American automaker sold 4218 units in October as opposed to 8769 units in September 2017. The new EcoSport’s launch is scheduled this month and it remains to be seen how the November sales figures of Ford will look like.

Nissan and Renault posted a marginal decline in sales. The Japanese and the French carmaker sold 4645 units and 9305 units respectively in October 2017. It is the Kwid that contributed almost 90 percent of sales to Renault. Toyota’s sales have marginally increased. The automaker sold 12,403 cars in October with the Innova Crysta backing the brand’s sales charts.

Although Tata’s sales have marginally fallen, the homegrown automaker has dethroned Honda to bag the fourth spot in domestic car sales. There is a strong demand for cars like the Tiago and Nexon. Tata sold a total of 16,475 cars while Honda managed to sell 14,234 cars. The City and WR-V account for over half of that number. Mahindra sold 22,073 units in October and in comparison, sold 23,145 units in September 2017, thereby clocking a 5 percent fall in sales.

Hyundai also registered a marginal de-growth in sales for October. The carmaker sold 49,588 units in October whereas sales for September were 50,028 units. Other than the Grand i10 and the Elite i20, the Creta and newly-launched Verna are selling in good numbers for the Korean carmaker. The Verna has outsold the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz for 2 months in a row. India’s popular carmaker, Maruti also has registered a decline in sales. It sold 1,35,128 cars in October as opposed to 1,50,521 cars in September. Sales of the famous duo, the Dzire and Swift have also fallen.
