December 2020 Car Sales
Looks like sales have quickly normalised in a short while

Car sales in the month of December 2020 saw the resurgence of Maruti Alto, which once again rose to the top spot, relegating the Swift to second place.

Maruti sold 18,140 units of its ever popular small car, with the Swift, which is due for a facelift, adding another 18,131 units to its sales tally in December.

The Baleno just about managed to cross the 18,000-mark, while another Maruti Suzuki product, the Wagon R followed close by, having garnered close to 17,700 units.

Fifth-placed Maruti Dzire sold 13,868 times over in December 2020, while the Venue became the top-selling Hyundai last month, with just over 12,300 units to its name.

Another compact SUV, the Maruti Vitara Brezza came seventh with 12,251 units, followed by the Eeco (11,215 units) from the same automaker.

Rounding up the top 10 are the Hyundai Creta with 10,592 units and Grand i10/NIOS, having sold 10,263 units last month.

In the bottom 15, products from Tata such as the Nexon (6835 units), Altroz (6600 units) and Tiago (6066 units) did well, but the Hyundai i20 did better with 8004 unit sales.

Kia Motors did not have a good outing in December 2020, for its Sonet (5959 units) and Seltos (5608) SUVs slipped to 18th and 19th positions, respectively.

Mahindra had 2 of its products (Bolero and XUV300) in the top 25 December 2020 car sales list, and so did Renault, with its Triber and Kwid once again fetching decent sales.

Honda and MG managed to just about make it to the top 25, with the Amaze sitting in at 22nd spot with 4385 units and the Hector occupying the last position having garnered 3430 unit sales.

Although 8 cars in the list did post degrowth, many others saw their sales rise by a huge margin. The XUV300’s year-over-year (YoY) growth was at 86 percent, while the Wagon R (64 percent), Creta (58 percent) did well too.
