TVS Draken Side

TVS has finally showcased something interesting at the Auto Expo. The company has unveiled the TVS Draken which is a 250cc concept bike. The Draken is a 249.2cc, 4-valve, DOHC bike which uses liquid-cooling. The exhaust is placed very nearly under the engine and coming out ahead of the front brake lever. The company calls it a high performance reverse free flow exhaust system. The TVS Draken weighs just 134 kgs and has a 10-litre fuel tank. It has a wheelbase of 1340 mm and a ground clearance of 170 mm.

The TVS Draken runs on 95 octane fuel and is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. The Draken produces 38.50 BHP of power at 12,000 RPM and 23 Nm of torque at 9500 RPM. The claimed mileage is 33.3 km/l. BMW hasn’t developed this bike, nor has it helped TVS in making it. TVS has made no announcements about the Draken except this is just a concept which will give direction to the next generation Apache, expected later this year. Many things on the TVS Draken aren’t feasible for production as the engine seems to be too high-revving with very little low-end grunt.

TVS does seem to be influenced from its alliance partner BMW Motorrad and thus we can see the headlight is very different and lacks any sort of symmetry. If TVS can take some cues from the Draken and quickly come up with the Apache 250 with the same engine producing around 30 BHP of power, it could give a tough challenge to both the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS and KTM Duke 200. ABS should be offered as standard on such a fast motorcycle which has everything in it to be a winner in the Indian market.
