TVS iQube hybrid scooter likely to be launched in India this year, comes powered by a petrol engine as well as an electric motor.

The iQube hybrid scooter will get the FAME subsidy

TVS has been on a roll for the past five months. After the successful launches of the Apache RR 310, NTORQ 125 and Apache 160 4V, the company is now planning to introduce the iQube hybrid scooter in the Indian market sometime this year.

The overall design and styling of the iQube are likely to remain more or less similar and the automaker is likely to give the scooter some bright paint shades in order to make it more appealing. TVS has been planning to introduce a hybrid scooter in India for a long time and finally sees the time right for the launch of the product. According to sources, the company has decided to bring the iQube to production.

The TVS iQube was first unveiled at the 2010 Auto Expo. The hybrid scooter draws power from a 110cc petrol engine along with a hub-mounted electric motor with two battery options – 150 Wh and 500 Wh. The electric motor powers the scooter when speeds are below 20 km/hr and above that, the petrol engine kicks in. Both these instances are controlled by economy and power riding modes. Prices for the iQube are expected to be competitive as it will get the FAME subsidy. However, the current FAME subsidy structure is valid till 30th September 2018 and the government is working on the second phase of the FAME which is likely to get more supportive and better than the first phase.
