Piaggio to commence BS6 scooter deliveries from April 2020

The Piaggio Group will commence deliveries of the Vespa and Aprilia branded BS6 compliant scooters from April 1, 2020. The Italian 2-wheeler maker is looking to wait until the BS6 deadline kicks in.

The updated scooters will be sent out to Piaggio dealerships starting next week. There will be a significant price difference with the updated BS6 engine on both Vespa and Aprilia branded scooters.

The pricing is likely to increase by Rs. 18-19,000/- for the BS6 compliant models. Piaggio will also change the name of the Aprilia SR 150 scooter to Aprilia SR 160.

The change in the name of the scooter has nothing to do with the change in the displacement or power output of the scooter. It will continue to get power from the same 154.8cc engine.

The 150cc range of scooters from Vespa and Aprilia will get no changes in the output figures with BS6 upgrade. The 154.8cc single cylinder engine will will continue to churn out 10.5 PS of power and 10.9 Nm of torque.

There is an addition of fuel-injection system with BS6 compliant engine which can make the throttle response better.

A BS6 compliant Vespa has been spotted that reveals mild changes to the scooter. It comes with a new end-can design which is more rounded. There console layout is different, there are steel braided brake lines and larger cubby holes. The weight of the scooter remains unchanged.

The Vespa SXL 150 BS6 that has been spied here will get a price tag of around Rs. 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom).
