Volkswagen India has announced the launch of the petrol version of the Jetta today. The company has used a 1.4-litre TSI petrol motor in the Jetta, instead of the 1.8-litre TSI, which does duty in its sibling, the Skoda Laura. However, the pricing seems to be very optimistic as the company has priced the Jetta 1.4 TSI Trendline variant at Rs. 13.60 lakhs, while the Jetta 1.4 TSI Comfortline variant is priced at Rs. 15.07 lakhs (there is no highline variant on offer). In comparison the Skoda Laura Active 1.8 TSI is priced at Rs. 12.91 lakhs, the Laura Ambition 1.8 TSI is priced at Rs. 14.01 lakhs, while the range topping Laura v R S is priced at Rs. 16.11 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Volkswagen Jetta TSI is equipped with 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine with a maximum power output of 120 BHP at 5000 RPM and a maximum torque of 200 Nm between 1500-4000 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. TSI is the pioneering technology from Volkswagen for petrol engines. These engines are compact, powerful and use less fuelm the company claims. These are designed to deliver high torque from engine speed as low as 1500 RPM. However the 1.4-litre TSI is 40 BHP and 50 Nm down on the 1.8-litre TSI engine.
The new generation Jetta is 90 mm longer than the previous one, thus providing more comfort to its passengers. There has been design change which resulted in clear precise lines and muscular surfaces. The exteriors are equipped with “Navarra” alloy wheels 205/55 R 16 tyres, rear fog lights, side turn signal lights integrated in exterior mirrors and dual exhaust pipes. The new Jetta TSI will be offered in six different colors – Candy white, Reflex silver, Toffee brown, Deep black pearl, Platinum grey and Moon Rock Silver.
The interiors have got their own set of changes which have been done with great precision and perfection. The extended wheelbase of the new Jetta enables a rear seating layout which is more comfortable. The large rear window offers excellent visibility. More technically, the interiors have been equipped with leatherette seat upholstery and a leather package for steering wheel, gear shift knob and hand brake grip. A front center armrest with storage box has been provided along with storage compartments on the headliner and a lockable and illuminated glove compartment. The rear AC vents provide comfort to the passengers.
Talk about the comfort and the convenience and the new Jetta hosts a RCD 300 Plus music system with CD player, Aux-in and 8-speakers. The front seat has the provision for height adjustment for the driver for better visibility. The air conditioner is climate controlled. With comfort, comes the safety and security factor too. Advanced occupant safety is the new feature in the all new Jetta. It has been equipped with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and 6 airbags. Other safety features include front seat belt with height adjustment and seat-belt tensioner, central locking with 2 remote control folding keys, 3-point belt for center rear seat, electronic engine immobilizer, engine and transmission guard and hill hold control.
