Volkswagen has showcased a performance-oriented version of the XL1, called XL Sport. It comes with the world’s most powerful production 2-cylinder engine.
We all know that Volkswagen has a very fuel efficient vehicle it its line-up called the XL1. The XL1 is powered by a 800cc 2-cylinder diesel engine giving out 57 HP of power. Now, the German automaker has unveiled the XL Sport which is a sportier version of the XL1. Under the hood, the XL Sport comes with the world’s most powerful production 2-cylinder engine borrowed from the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. This 1.2-litre V2 engine produces 200 PS of power and the redline goes all the way to 11,000 RPM.
The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG and the sprint from 0-100 km/hr takes 5.7 seconds while the vehicle reaches a top speed of 270 km/hr. The Volkswagen XL Sport looks quite striking and futuristic. The thin and sharp headlights add a distinct feel to the vehicle while the sleek grille gels well with the design. The concept gets dual 5-spoke alloys. The rear looks a but droopy thanks to those long tail lamps but otherwise it is a good design. The interiors have been kept pretty simple.
While the XL Sport shares its chassis with the XL1, it gets many new components such as a wide body kit manufactured in carbon reinforced polymer. The XL Sport is 4291 mm long, 1847 mm wide and 1152 mm high. Its wheelbase is 2424 mm and it achieves a drag coefficient of 0.258. Volkswagen has not yet made it clear whether the XL Sport will be manufactured or not. If it does make it to production, expect Volkswagen to have a very limited run with demand being low due to the high asking price.
