The 2022 Auto Expo will not take place between 2nd-9th February as planned earlier

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 Auto Expo will not be held as planned, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has conveyed.

Earlier, the biennial event, officially called ‘Auto Expo – The Motor Show 2022’, was supposed to take place between 2nd and 9th February 2022 at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida.

Keeping in mind the safety of exhibitors, visitors and all stakeholders involved, the Indian automobile industry and SIAM have decided to defer the event.

SIAM, in a statement, said there is uncertainty around how COVID-19 would develop in the coming months and it also said there are apprehensions regarding a possible third wave.

It also added that the “magnitude of the risk of spread of infection is extremely high in a B2C show like Auto Expo, which is visited by large crowds” and acknowledged the fact that maintaining social distancing would be difficult.

Stating that the Auto Expo is like a festival of celebration for the auto industry, the SIAM added that it would need a lead time of preferably a year to organise the 2022 Auto Expo.

As things stand, the exact date for the next edition of the auto show is not known. SIAM states the dates would be finalised later this year by taking into account the situation with regard to COVID-19 and also in alignment with the OICA calendar of auto shows.
