Cleveland CycleWerks is an American motorcycle company based out of Ohio, Cleveland. This is also where the company takes its name from. The company has officially entered into India through its subsidiary, Cleveland CycleWerks India and have setup a plant in Pune, Maharashtra where it will build its motorcycles via completely knocked down (CKD) units. The parts will be sourced from China and assembled in Pune.

The motorcycle company will first launch three models in India out of a total of five. The first bike will be the Misfit. It is a café-racer that doesn’t really have the typical low-slung bars but does look contemporary. Powering the Cleveland Misfit will be a 229cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 15.4 HP at 7000 RPM and 16 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. There’s also a 320 mm disc brake at the front, quite huge for the power.

The second motorcycle that CCW will be launching is the Ace Deluxe model. This one has the Scrambler look with wide handle bars, slightly raised front fender, dual surface tyres and inverted forks. This bike too is powered by the same engine found in the Misfit. It is a 229cc, air-cooled engine producing 15.4 HP at 7000 RPM and 16 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM.

The third bike is the FXR. CCW markets the FXR as a cross between a dirt bike and a mountain bike. The motorcycle is really sleek which will help it in tackling those undulating terrains with ease. The overall weight of the bike is a mere 87 kgs. It is powered by a 123.7cc engine producing 8.3 HP at 8500 RPM and 8.5 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM. The fuel tank capacity too is a meagre 3.2-litres.

There’s no official word about the pricing of these bikes yet but they are expected to fall in the Rs. 1.1.5 lakh range. CCW has also tied up with Laish-Madison MotorWerks, a Hyderabad based company, for assembly and sales. A plant will also come up in the state of Telangana.

With three motorcycles lined up for different segments, the company is clearly serious about taking on its competitors in the entry-level sports bike segment. The sales of the bikes are expected to begin by September this year. The FXR will probably be the first of its kind motorcycle to go on sale officially in India. The company’s plant in Pune has been inaugurated with a ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ and we hope that good omen shines on the company.
