Currently, Mahindra is the only Indian automaker to have electric cars in its portfolio

Mahindra recently launched the KUV100 NXT in the Indian market priced from Rs. 4.39 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Speaking at the launch, Pawan Goenka confirmed that the electric version of the KUV100 will be launched in the next year and the electric drivetrain will be used in all future crossovers manufactured by the company.

The automaker is currently developing the electric powertrain to be used in the KUV100. No other details are available on the type of battery, range, etc. Apart from the KUV100, Mahindra is also planning to launch an electric version of the S201 compact SUV by 2019. However, the company has no plans to bring out electric versions of the Scorpio and XUV500.

Meanwhile, the automaker is also working on 2 petrol engines as it wants to shed the tag of a diesel vehicle maker and expects their petrol product portfolio to be stronger than diesel once BS6 norms come in. The company informs that over 50 percent of KUV100’s sales come from petrol variants. A 1.5-litre petrol engine will debut in 2018, followed by a 2.0-litre petrol engine in 2019.

Mahindra currently has the e2oPlus and e-Verito in its electric vehicles portfolio and has committed an investment of over Rs. 3500-4000 crores on their future electric vehicle portfolio.
