Maruti Suzuki is known for bringing new technologies to the Indian market on its vehicles and seldom has the company disappointed on that front. With the new Ciaz hybrid launched recently, the automaker managed to raise the bar once again in the sub Rs. 10 lakh space by incorporating a relatively sophisticated SHVS technology on its C-segment sedan. However, the automaker isn’t limiting the use of this technology to its premium vehicle. At the launch, Maruti confirmed that more of its offerings will get the SHVS hybrid system in the future.

The new Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology on the Ciaz includes idle start-stop, brake energy recuperation and engine power assist systems and is paired to a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that has cumulatively helped achieve an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 28.09 km/l. The 1.3-litre engine happens to be one of the widely used powertrain in Maruti’s stable powering the Swift, DZire, Ertiga and even the new S-Cross. It is believed that the company will be introducing the new SHVS technology on the Ertiga facelift next that is scheduled to launch later this year, while the DZire will follow soon. The Celerio diesel is also expected to get the SHVS technology.

The 2015 Maruti Ertiga facelift made its public debut in Indonesia last month and gets an extensive list of changes including a revised front and rear fascia, improved equipment levels inside the cabin with the possible addition of Maruti’s new SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system. The outgoing Ertiga diesel returns an ARAI certified 20.77 km/l and the number is certain to see a significant jump with the facelifted model getting the SHVS system. The automaker has also been testing the DZire with an AMT unit that will reportedly get the SHVS upgrade and will push the fuel efficiency figure further on the model from the current ARAI certified 26.59 km/l.
