Mitsubishi has introduced the Final Edition of the Pajero in Japan

Mitsubishi has launched the Pajero Final Edition in Japan. The SUV will soon no longer be available in its home turf. The Pajero has been on sale in Japan since 1982 with almost 6,40,000 units delivered across Japan itself. The Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition model will be the last one which will be sold in Japan.

Mitsubishi plans to assemble not more than 700 units of the SUV with the production scheduled to come to an end in August 2019. In Japan, the prices for the Final Edition model starts from 4.53 million yen (Rs. 28.35 lakhs). Mitsubishi will continue selling the Pajero in the international markets.

The Final Edition model of the Pajero comes equipped with leather seats, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, powered driver and front passenger seats, roof rails, electric sunroof, steering mounted controls and a winter package with the option of a large screen at the centre console. Most of the features come as standard.

Coming under the hood, the Pajero Final Edition is powered by a 3.2-litre diesel engine making 190 HP and 441 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox with Super-Select 4WD II all-wheel-drive system and a lockable rear differential. The current generation Pajero had debuted in 2006 at the Paris Motor show and got several facelifts in 2010, 2012 and 2015 to maintain its relevancy with the market. Not only this, it was available with a 3.0-litre V6, 3.5-litre V6, 3.8-litre V6 two four-cylinder diesel engine depending on the market.

The Mitsubishi Pajero saw very poor demand in 2018 with the company managing to sell less than 1000 units. The reason for the poor sales for the SUV is the poor economy ratings, which is way less than what other efficient vehicles from Mitsubishi’s stable have to offer. The Pajero was quite a popular SUV in the Indian market about a decade back but the poor network and lacklustre after sales of Mitsubishi affected the sales of the Pajero.
