With the BS6 norms kicking in from 1st April 2020, a lot of automakers will be upgrading or replacing their current engines and Renault India will also be one of them. We know that Renault will be discontinuing diesel engines in the Indian market come April 2020.

We have now learnt that Renault will introduce a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine in the Indian market and this powerplant will be used in cars like the Duster and Captur. The turbo petrol engine will replace the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine which the French automaker is currently using in its vehicles.

The new petrol engine is likely to be available with a choice of both manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions. It will be BS6-compliant and could be more fuel efficient than the current 1.5-litre engine. In overseas markets, the 1.3-litre TCe engine is available in 3 tunes – 115 HP, 140 HP and 160 HP but it remains to be seen what tune is made available in India but most likely it will be the 115 HP tune.
