Royal Enfield To Use 250cc Engine, Expected To Be Offered In A Mild Hybrid Or Full Hybrid Combination
Royal Enfield is able to use input from CFMoto to produce a 250cc hybrid engine. The company has reached an advanced stage regarding licensing the use of technologies for the engine, codenamed ‘V’. This step will help cater to the fuel efficiency regulations and introduce the entry-premium market.
Emission Norms
Royal Enfield will be using the 250cc engine to comply with the harsh BSVI Phase 2 emission norms and the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) norms. The reports suggest that Royal Enfield can also offer the engine as a mild hybrid or full hybrid powertrain due to its adaptability.
In-House Chassis & Suspension Design
Royal Enfield is expected to develop an in-house chassis and suspension design for the ‘V’ platform. Reportedly, the brand has this partnership solely for technical purposes, with no expectation of co-branded models or joint ventures. Top executives of Royal Enfield, responsible for product strategy and sourcing, recently travelled to China regarding the same.
Expected Pricing & Market Positioning
Royal Enfield plans to price the bike between Rs. 1.25 Lakh and Rs. 1.35 Lakh (ex-showroom). The ‘V’ Platform’s models will be positioned below the Hunter 350. The bike will cater to buyers upgrading from 125-150 cc engines.
The bikes are expected to come in a retro design and receive features like ABS, LED lighting, and a digital instrument cluster. The brand’s Chennai Highway Road Facility will produce the bike for Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield expects the localisation target to reach 85% to 90%.
Additionally, this will also help the brand to meet the domestic and export targets. It is safe to assume that the CFMoto deal will likely be announced in the first half of 2026. The battle in the 250cc lineup will be fierce as companies like Bajaj, TVS, and Honda offer technology-rich offerings.
