People are slowly moving away from small cars

Small hatchback sales in February 2021 was led by the Maruti Suzuki Alto that found 16,919 takers. However, the number was down 6 percent year-on-year (YoY).

Maruti’s S-Presso sits in the second position with 7040 units to its name, while the Renault Kwid came third with 3927 unit sales.

Datsun’s redi-GO (889 units) was, surprisingly, the only small car to witness a YoY sales growth. Overall sales stood at 28,775 units, which is a 11% decrease over February last year.

Tata Tiago registered the highest growth rate in this segment

With 20,264 unit sales, the Maruti Suzuki Swift led the February 2021 hatchback sales and even recorded a 8 percent YoY growth.

Up next comes the Wagon R that was driven home by 18,728 people (3 percent growth), followed by the Grand i10 NIOS from the house of Hyundai.

Tata Motors sold 6787 units of the Tiago last month, closely followed by the Maruti Celerio that found 6214 takers.

Occupying the sixth position in the hatchback sales chart, the Maruti Ignis retailed 3340 times over, while the Hyundai Santro (2128 units) came seventh.

There is not much to speak about the cars occupying the last 3 positions, as they did not fare well. Overall sales, though, was strong at 67,883 units with a 3 percent growth.
