The Toyota version of Maruti’s Vitara Brezza will be launched in India by 2020-21.

Toyota and Suzuki had penned an agreement in March 2018 to share their products in the Indian market, including hybrids, with both the firms announcing in March 2017 about the introduction of electric vehicles in India by 2020. With these announcements, last week the news came that Toyota-badged Baleno will be launched in India in the second half of 2019.

The Vitara Brezza will the second in line to be rebadged as a Toyota car after the Baleno, with the car only being launched in 2020-21. Toyota-badged Brezza will host a few cosmetic changes like redesigned headlights, bumper, etc. to give a distinct look to the car. With the agreement in March 2018, Toyota has also agreed to offer the Corolla Altis to Suzuki.

The Vitara Brezza gets only 1 engine option currently which is the 1.3-litre DDiS unit. Now this engine is soon going to be replaced by the by the 1.5-litre diesel engine made in-house by Maruti Suzuki. Toyota is assumed to follow the same engine configuration so as to save the cost of production that will entail if any other mechanical changes are to be made for the Toyota rebadged car.
